A 14-year-old boy was killed over the weekend when a scooter he was driving collided head-on with a car, D.C. police said.

At about 7:20 p.m. on Saturday, Kaywone Wills of Southeast, was driving his scooter in the 2200 block of Hunter Place Southeast when he hit a speed bump and lost control of his motorized bike.

Police said Wills swerved into on-coming traffic and collided with a 1995 Mercury Cougar, which had managed to stop before Wills struck it.

A passenger on the back of the scooter, another male juvenile, suffered only minor injuries.
