It becomes painfully clearer that President Obama considers himself to be not just above the law, but to be a law unto himself.

His breathtaking subversion of the First Amendment, requiring religious employers to dispense contraceptives in violation of their constitutionally protected religious rights, was bad enough. Now with his new immigration “policy,” it is clear he thinks he can personally impose as law initiatives rejected by the people’s elected representatives in Congress. He resembles not so much a president, but a self-appointed dictator.

He can only be stopped if Congress stops him. It is Congress’ sacred duty to defend its constitutional role as the legislative body, to make sure laws are first passed by Congress or are not passed at all.

We call upon our congressman, Rep. Robert Hurt, Virginia Republican, to introduce articles of impeachment against President Obama. The great Chief Justice Joseph Story made it clear in his 1833 “Commentaries on the Constitution” that blatant subversion of the clear text of our Constitution are the very “high crimes and misdemeanors” impeachment provisions were intended to address.

Mr. Hurt should be as bold in defending the rule of law in our country as Mr. Obama has been in asserting his own overreaching power. His is not just another policy pronouncement, but a blatant power grab - an attempt to see just how much power he can amass.

It is up to Congress to stop him. We urge members to defend their prerogatives and our liberties by immediately sponsoring articles of impeachment. Mr. Obama has proven once again that “all that is necessary for evil to triumph is that good men do nothing.”
