NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Stephen Baldwin says nobody asked him to invest any money or join Kevin Costner in lobbying BP to use oil cleanup devices that the two actors were touting in the aftermath of the 2010 spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
Baldwin testified Monday at a trial for his lawsuit against Costner. He said he used his celebrity to market and promote the oil-separating centrifuges while he also worked on a documentary about the nation’s worst offshore spill.
Baldwin sold his shares in the company that marketed the devices to BP for $500,000. He said he would have held out for much more if he had known BP had agreed to make an $18 million deposit on a $52 million order for 32 of the machines.
