D.C. police are investigating a shooting and a stabbing that injured two men Thursday afternoon.

The stabbing happened in the 1500 block of 7th Street in Northwest around 12:40 p.m. Homicide investigators were called to the scene in the Shaw neighborhood because the man who was stabbed appeared seriously injured, Metropolitan Police Department spokesman Officer Tisha Gant said.

About two hours after the attack, police from the department’s Third District reported that a suspect in the stabbing was in custody. No further information was immediately available.

Around 1:40 p.m., a shooting was reported across the city in Southwest D.C. An 18-year-old man was shot in the back in the 2400 block of Elvans Road. He was conscious and breathing when taken to the hospital, Officer Gant said.

There was no available description of the shooting suspect.
