LYTHAM ST. ANNES, ENGLAND (AP) - Tiger Woods’ last trip to northwest England for the British Open ended in a two-shot victory at Royal Liverpool.

That was six years ago, and it seems even longer.

The good news for Woods is that the British Open is the first major since the 2011 Masters that he has a mathematical chance to return to No. 1 in the world. If only it were that simple. He now has gone four years since winning his last major, though he has reason to believe that can change.

Woods described the Open as his favorite major because of the imagination required to play so many different shots required on a links course, and affected by the various weather conditions.
