SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - A new version of Microsoft’s widely used suite of word processing, spreadsheet and email programs is expected to be unveiled in San Francisco.
Microsoft has declined to say what the Monday afternoon event is about, but it says CEO Steve Ballmer will be there to provide details.
Various news outlets and industry analysts have reported that Microsoft Corp. intends to showcase Office 15, a widely anticipated overhaul of its popular and lucrative bundle of software programs.
Like an upcoming redesign of Microsoft’s Windows operating system, Office 15 is expected to respond to touch as well as commands delivered on a computer keyboard or mouse. The addition of touch-based controls will enable Office to extend its franchise into the rapidly growing tablet computer market.
