SAN ANTONIO — The San Antonio Spurs have re-signed Tim Duncan, bringing back the veteran forward for at least a 16th season.
Terms were not disclosed in Wednesday’s announcement, though Yahoo Sports reported it was a three-year, $36 million deal. Duncan is 36.
The 6-foot-11 Duncan was selected by San Antonio with the first pick in the 1997 draft. In 15 seasons, Duncan has led the Spurs to nine division titles and the playoffs every year, including four NBA championships. He has two NBA MVP awards to go along with three NBA Finals MVP honors.
Coach Gregg Popovich said the team is thrilled Duncan will spend his “entire career” in San Antonio.
Clippers’ Griffin lands five-year extension
LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles Clippers have signed All-Star forward Blake Griffin to a five-year contract extension that could be worth up to $95 million.
The deal could keep Griffin, who could opt out after four years, in a Clippers uniform until 2018.
Griffin averaged 20.7 points, 10.9 rebounds and 3.2 assists in 66 games last season.
Ex-Hoya Thompson signs with Thunder
OKLAHOMA CITY — The Oklahoma City Thunder have signed undrafted free agent Hollis Thompson to a contract.
The Thunder announced Wednesday that they had agreed to the deal with Thompson, who left Georgetown after his junior season to enter the NBA draft early, but did not get taken. The 6-foot-8 forward set a Hoyas record by making 44 percent of his 3-point attempts during three seasons at Georgetown.
