President Obama’s treatment of Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer last week was outrageous but not surprising (“Arizona tarmac tiff trips Obama campaign,” Web, Thursday). Time and again, our president has shown his inability to treat fellow citizens with respect and deference. If anyone thought they could take a street organizer and turn him into a magnanimous statesman, they should realize by now they were dead wrong.

Mr. Obama regularly reflects on the magnificence of our military, but apparently he has learned nothing of the core values of leadership by which its members live. These include praising in public and reprimanding in private. His petty argument with Mrs. Brewer is demonstrative of a man who is thin-skinned, self-absorbed and incapable of being kind or respectful to those with whom he disagrees politically. And he wonders why the country is so divided.
