President Obama says he wants to go around Congress as much as possible this year and govern solely using executive power. That amounts to telling taxpaying voters, “I don’t care about your elected representatives or how they communicate your needs and wishes.”

It is tantamount to saying our president has no regard for our form of government - one that is of the people, by the people and for the people. We may as well not have a right to representation at all. This statement also tells us a great deal about the size and power of government in which Mr. Obama believes. The president is so confident that he can control the people, industry and economy using only regulations and bureaucracy. After all, who needs legislators when you can get what you want through autocracy and the compulsive power of the state?

As Austrian economist Ludwig von Mises said, “The worst law is better than bureaucratic tyranny.” Bureaucratic tyranny is precisely what Mr. Obama will be giving us if Congress or the voters do not derail his plan.
