OPINION:
Last week, I had the great pleasure of running into the gracious and charming Teiro Cuccinelli, wife of Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli.
It was, as always, great to chat with her even as I felt the pressure to say goodbye because others wanted to greet her. But I can never be in her presence without remembering to thank her and her family for sharing Mr. Cuccinelli with us.
With the demands of his official duties as Virginia’s attorney general and the other things Mr. Cuccinelli takes on, Mrs. Cuccinelli takes up much of the slack of handling day-to-day family issues, such as home schooling the couple’s younger children.
Mr. Cuccinelli gets a bad rap as being “self-serving.” Well, let me tell you, I have read a good deal of his writing, including his Dec. 5 op-ed in The Washington Times (“Better health through consumer choice,” Web). I also have listened to many of his speeches and I believe he is highly educating. Mr. Cuccinelli has been clear in his belief that we are moving away from the intent of the Founding Fathers - and he is showing us the way to get back on track.
He has addressed meetings on a Saturday dressed informally because he is working on gang prevention. I have heard he also organizes friends and staff for the benefit of food banks. Mr. Cuccinelli has made it clear that this year’s elections are of paramount importance over his intent for 2013.
Some may miss his humor or disagree with his stance on the issues, but no one can fairly call him “self-serving.”
His daughters have the stamina and combined charm and wit of both their parents. Whatever course Mr. Cuccinelli ultimately decides to follow, his wife and children certainly will be powerful forces on the campaign trail.
