’Bourne Legacy’ cast, crew ready to film in Philippines
Officials say the cast and crew of the Hollywood action thriller “The Bourne Legacy” have arrived in the Philippines and were to start shooting a portion of the film in the capital of Manila on Wednesdays.
The fourth of the blockbuster “Bourne” series based on the spy novels of Robert Ludlum will be shot in the Philippines for a month. It stars Jeremy Renner, Rachel Weisz and Edward Norton but not Matt Damon, the star of first three “Bourne” films.
Francis Tolentino, head of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, said Tuesday that he has 120 crowd-control personnel to assist traffic enforcers during the first day of shooting in Manila’s Malate tourist district.
Snoop Dogg arrested in Texas on minor drug charge
Rapper Snoop Dogg is facing a minor drug charge in Texas after border agents say they found several marijuana joints on his tour bus.
Hudspeth County sheriff’s office said in a statement that Snoop Dogg, whose name is Calvin Broadus, was arrested Saturday at the Sierra Blanca highway checkpoint and cited for possession of drug paraphernalia, a misdemeanor typical in cases involving small amounts of marijuana.
According to the sheriff’s office, a border agent smelled marijuana smoke coming from the bus and ordered everyone off so a sniffer dog could inspect the vehicle. A prescription bottle with several marijuana cigarettes was found in a trash can, and more marijuana was found in two other containers. In all, 0.13 pounds of the drug were found.
Mr. Broadus admitted the drugs were his and was released, the sheriff’s office said.
The rapper’s agent didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment Monday. In interviews, the rapper has said he has a license to use medical marijuana in his home state of California because he suffers from migraines and blurred vision.
County Judge Becky Dean Walker said paraphernalia citations typically are handled by justices of the peace in the county and that they are resolved by a no-contest plea and a mailed-in fine of up to $500.
’Vertigo’ star Novak irked by music choice in ’The Artist’
“Vertigo” leading lady Kim Novak isn’t keeping quiet about her disdain for “The Artist.”
The 78-year-old actress said in a statement released by her manager Monday that she feels violated because music from the Alfred Hitchcock film is used in the French black-and-white homage to the silent-film era. Miss Novak said “The Artist” filmmakers had no reason “to depend on Bernard Herrmann’s score from ’Vertigo’ to provide more drama.”
“My body of work has been violated by ’The Artist,’ ” Miss Novak said. “This film took the love theme music from ’Vertigo’ and used the emotions it engenders as its own. Alfred Hitchcock and Jimmy Stewart can’t speak for themselves, but I can.”
Miss Novak, who played the dual role of a suicidal trophy wife of a rich San Franciscan and a morose working girl opposite Stewart in the 1958 thriller directed by Hitchcock, said that even though Herrmann was given “a small credit at the end,” she believed “this kind of filmmaking trick to be cheating.”
“The Artist,” which was written and directed by Michel Hazanavicius and stars Jean Dujardin and Berenice Bejo as silent film actors, leads Sunday’s Golden Globes ceremony with six nominations and is expected to be a front-runner at this year’s Academy Awards.
” ’The Artist’ was made as a love letter to cinema, and grew out of my (and all of my cast and crew’s) admiration and respect for movies throughout history,” Mr. Hazanavicius responded in a statement. “I respect Kim Novak greatly, and I’m sorry to hear she disagrees.”
Coachella music festival announces 2012 lineup
The Black Keys, Radiohead, Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg will headline two weekends of concerts at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.
Organizers of the Indio, Calif., music festival on Monday announced a dizzying list of top musicians who are slated to perform over two long weekends, April 13 to 15 and April 20 to 22.
The six-day concert schedule marks the first time Coachella is to extend over two consecutive weekends.
More than 100 bands are expected to perform at the shows, also including Arctic Monkeys, the Shins, Bon Iver, Pulp, Florence and the Machine, Beirut, At the Drive In, Cat Power and ska legends Madness.
Tickets go on sale at 1 p.m. Friday starting at $285 for a festival pass.
Cannon recovering at home after ’mild kidney failure’
Nick Cannon is out of the hospital after battling what wife Mariah Carey called “mild kidney failure.”
The entertainer was hospitalized in Aspen, Colo., last week after he fell ill while the couple was on vacation there. He was transferred to a Los Angeles hospital a few days later. Miss Carey said he was suffering from a form of kidney failure but no further details were released.
In a statement Monday, Mr. Cannon’s publicist Tracy Nguyen said he is now “resting and recovering at home.” She said he would return to his live morning radio show, “Rollin’ with Nick Cannon,” on Tuesday.
