BOSTON (AP) - Police have been forced to disperse hundreds of students who gathered at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst after the Patriots lost the Super Bowl.
The Springfield Republican reports that riot squads ordered students to leave the southwest part of campus about 10 p.m. Sunday, then used smoke grenades and officers on horseback to get them to scatter.
Junior Marissa Faldasz, who took video of the crowd from her dorm room, says people were chanting “U.S.A., U.S.A.” and throwing beer cans. She says some students were getting into fistfights but she did not see any ambulances.
The New England Patriots lost to the New York Giants 21-17.
