BARCELONA, SPAIN (AP) - Google’s executive chairman says rapid advances in technology are increasingly turning science fiction into reality, meaning people will soon have driverless cars and the ability to experience being in another place without ever leaving home.
Eric Schmidt issued the predictions during a packed conference hall at the Mobile World Congress, the planet’s largest cell phone trade show.
Schmidt says the digital revolution will eventually allow consumers to place holograms of themselves elsewhere _ with functions so they can hear, see and feel what it is like in the remote locations.
He also told the crowd Tuesday that driverless cars tested by Google Inc. have logged more than 200,000 miles (322,000 kilometers).
