ATLANTA (AP) - Rock and blues pianist Chuck Leavell is getting a new title to reflect his environmental work outside the studio: The U.S. Department of Agriculture is making him an honorary forest ranger.

U.S. Forest Service Chief Tom Tidwell was scheduled to bestow the honor on Leavell at a private ceremony Monday in Atlanta.

Leavell was a member of the Allman Brothers Band and has played keyboard for acts including the Rolling Stones and Eric Clapton. He’s also a noted conservationist and co-founded the Mother Nature Network, an online environmental news service.
