David Pellom recorded his third straight double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds, and George Washington downed Duquesne for the first time in five years, 56-51 on Saturday.
The Colonials (10-18, 7-7 Atlantic 10) led most of the game but had to ward off the Dukes in the final minute.
B.J. Monteiro followed his missed free throw with a missed jumper, which would have given Duquesne (15-13, 6-8) its first lead since midway through the first half. Bryan Bynes grabbed the rebound as Bynes, Pellom and Tony Taylor made five of George Washington’s last six free throws to seal the victory.
Pellom also blocked Sean Johnson’s layup that would have brought the Dukes to within a point with nine seconds left.
Monteiro scored 13 points to lead the Dukes. They were outrebounded 42-24 — matching their smallest output in a conference game this season — and shot 37 percent.
