D.C. Council member Jack Evans has wasted no time in requesting the full council weigh in on the repeal of the District’s controversial online gambling program.

Mr. Evans, Ward 2 Democrat, is chairman of the Committee on Finance and Revenue that voted 3-2 on Wednesday to scrap iGaming and reconsider the city’s options for wagered games online through the D.C. Lottery system.

On Friday, he asked council Chairman Kwame R. Brown to place the repeal bill on Tuesday’s legislative agenda for a final vote.

The repeal, which is virtually assured after Mayor Vincent C. Gray said he did not support the program in its current proposal and after the council committee vote, comes after months of contention and community meetings on the program.

The council passed into law as part of a budget bill in December 2010, but city lawmakers said a flawed contract process and lack of transparency raised serious questions about the program, leading to its repeal.
