MEXICO CITY (AP) - Serena Williams has pulled out of next week’s Monterrey Open because of an ankle injury.
Tournament organizers said Saturday they were told of the withdrawal by the WTA. They said Williams turned down a wild-card invitation because she hurt her ankle during a recent practice.
Williams played the Fed Cup this month and won two matches when the United States defeated Belarus.
Williams withdrew from the Brisbane International in early January with an injured left ankle, but went on to reach the round of 16 at the Australian Open.
