I am tired of hearing about the financial disaster our country is facing and how the country is headed toward bankruptcy. The truth is we are already there.

President Obama’s latest budget is yet another straw that contributes to the camel’s already-broken back (“Obama sends fiscal 2013 budget proposals to Congress,” Web, Monday). If any American is not yet convinced we are in a financial free-fall, they are either in denial or they are so mesmerized by our talker-in-chief that they will never see the dire situation Mr. Obama has created.

We are nearing the point where it will be difficult just to pay the interest on our mountainous debt, as the administration continues to present budgets that exceed revenues by more than $1 trillion and ramp up the debt to previously unheard-of levels. Another dose of truth is the fact that the Democratic leadership in the Senate has no intention of bringing the budget to the floor because not even they, let alone the Republicans, would likely support it.

It’s time to come to terms with the reality: Our president intends to drive us to the bottom of the bankruptcy abyss with profligate spending and increased taxes while he blames the rich, corporate America, Republicans, conservatives and anyone who doesn’t support his agenda. The fundamental change Mr. Obama promised is here and it isn’t pretty. Our only hope is that the forces of reason will prevail this November and we can begin to salvage what is left of the economic scrap heap called capitalism and restore the Constitution to its former condition. It will take more than bodywork and a good mechanic. It will take a miracle.
