Police arrested a Riverdale man Monday in connection with a deadly fight outside a Dupont Circle restaurant that left one man dead and six others injured.
Brandon Terry, 29, has been charged with second-degree murder while armed for the November fatal shooting of Jhonte Coleman outside the Heritage India Brassiere and Lounge, Metropolitan Police Department officials said.
Coleman, 34, was killed and six others injured — either stabbed, shot or beaten — outside the restaurant after a late-night party ended.
Security staff had shut down the party early after several fights broke out inside during an event, according to investigators’ reports. As patrons crowded onto the sidewalk out front, a fight resumed, and a short while later, shots rang out.
Mr. Terry was arrested Monday morning in the 400 block of Division Avenue Northeast, an MPD spokeswoman said.
His arrest is the first MPD has announced in the case, and an department spokeswoman could not say Monday whether more arrests were expected.
Heritage India was shut down for nearly a month after the shooting as it implemented new security regulations requested by the D.C.’s Alcoholic Beverage Control Board.
