WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) - Jim Curley is stepping down as tournament director for tennis’ U.S. Open, a post he’s held since 2001.

The U.S. Tennis Association announced Curley’s move Friday. He will stay on as a consultant through this year’s Grand Slam tournament, which runs Aug. 27 through Sept. 9.

Curley says he believes “it is time for a change.”

Deputy tournament director David Brewer will take over as tournament director and oversee the USTA’s professional tennis operations. Brewer will report directly to USTA executive director Gordon Smith.
