Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano’s speech at the National Press Club on Monday was an unspoken confession of incompetence (“Napolitano links homeland security, economy” Web, Monday).

Not once in a lengthy address and question-and-answer period did Ms. Napolitano mention the increasing radicalization within the American Muslim community or the danger presented by Islamist extremism here and abroad. Ms. Napolitano mentioned al Qaeda only once.

No one should contend that all Muslims are dangers, but to omit any reference to the danger presented by Islamic extremism is a dereliction of duty.
