OPINION:
Bob Costas’ tirade about a gun culture having led to the recent murder-suicide of Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher and his girlfriend last week was a perfect example of the typical liberal need to feel satisfied by reaching for an easy answer (“Bob Costas shoots himself in the foot,” Commentary, Wednesday).
The culture that leads to these deaths is not a “gun culture.” The guilty culture is the one that says violence against women is just “how it is,” and violence and anger are legitimate responses to anything that gives offense. What leads to this culture? Rap music, violent video games and movies that glorify violence, among other things.
Had Mr. Costas really wanted to have an impact, he ought to have looked deeply into what has happened to our culture overall.
