New York City police whistleblower Frank Serpico says Al Pacino played him better than he did himself.
Mr. Pacino played the detective who exposed widespread police corruption in the 1973 movie “Serpico.” According to The Associated Press, the New York Daily News interviewed the real-life Mr. Serpico in Ghent, in New York’s Hudson Valley, for a recent story.
The 76-year-old retiree spoke weeks after the death of fellow whistleblowing ex-detective David Durk.
Mr. Serpico smiled as an interviewer noted he is ranked No. 41, just behind Lassie, on the American Film Institute’s list of movie heroes. He said that’s “good company.”
The newspaper said Mr. Serpico keeps busy trying to finish a book and taking solitary walks.
Mr. Serpico and Durk’s efforts resulted in front-page newspaper stories and a city panel that recommended reforms to prevent police corruption.
Rolling Stones’ Wood ties knot for third time
Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood tied the knot with his theater-producer fiancee, Sally Humphreys, in a private ceremony Friday in London, according to a report in the United Kingdom’s Sun, which also published photos of the bride and groom on their happy day.
Mr. Wood, 65, and Ms. Humphreys, 34, announced their engagement in October, just six months after they began dating, according to People.
According to the reports out of the United Kingdom, the rocker wore pink socks and a navy suit, and the bride wore her mother’s wedding dress.
The low-key ceremony took place in the eighth-floor penthouse in London’s Dorchester Hotel.
Guests included Rod Stewart and his wife, Penny Lancaster, and Paul McCartney and his wife, Nancy Shevell.
This is the third marriage for Mr. Wood, who just played shows with the Stones in the United States as part of their 50 and Counting tour.
Iron Butterfly bassist died of natural causes
Coroner’s officials say Lee Dorman, bass guitarist for the 1960s psychedelic rock band Iron Butterfly, died of natural causes in Southern California and there won’t be an autopsy.
According to The Associated Press, a statement from the Orange County coroner’s office said Dorman, 70, was under the care of a physician when he was found dead in his car Friday at his home in the coastal town of Laguna Niguel.
Authorities have said Mr. Dorman may have been on his way to a doctor’s appointment when he died.
No services have been announced.
Iron Butterfly rose to prominence in the late 1960s. According to the band’s website, its second album, “In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida,” sold more than 30 million copies. The title track’s distinctive notes have been featured in numerous films and TV shows.
Rihanna gives $1.75M to hospital in Barbados
Pop star Rihanna has given $1.75 million to a hospital in her Caribbean homeland of Barbados in memory of her late grandmother.
According to The Associated Press, Rihanna said the donation to buy three pieces of medical equipment was her way of “giving back to Barbados.”
She made the comments during a Saturday ceremony with relatives at the island’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital. The hospital’s radiotherapy unit has been renamed the Clara Braithwaite Center for Oncology and Nuclear Medicine after Rihanna’s grandmother, who died in June.
Rihanna recently released “Unapologetic,” her seventh album in seven years.
Kutcher files for divorce from Demi Moore
Ashton Kutcher filed court papers Friday to end his seven-year marriage to actress Demi Moore.
The actor’s divorce petition cites irreconcilable differences and does not list a date when the couple separated, according to The Associated Press. Miss Moore announced last year that she was ending her marriage to the actor, 15 years her junior, but she never filed a petition.
Mr. Kutcher’s filing does not indicate that the couple has a prenuptial agreement. The filing states that Mr. Kutcher signed the document Friday, hours before it was filed in Los Angeles Superior Court.
Mr. Kutcher and Miss Moore married in September 2005 and until recently kept their relationship very public, communicating with each other and fans on the social networking site Twitter. After their breakup, Miss Moore changed her name on the site from @mrskutcher to @justdemi.
Mr. Kutcher stars on CBS’ “Two and a Half Men.”
Miss Moore previously was married to actor Bruce Willis for 13 years. They had three daughters together — Rumer, Scout and Tallulah Belle — before divorcing in 2000. Mr. Willis later married model-actress Emma Heming in an intimate 2009 ceremony at his home in Parrot Cay in the Turks and Caicos Islands that was attended by their children as well as Miss Moore and Mr. Kutcher.
Mr. Kutcher has been dating former “That ’70s Show” co-star Mila Kunis.
