NEW YORK (AP) - Oday Aboushi watched all the news reports, sitting miles away from home at the University of Virginia and feeling helpless as Superstorm Sandy tore through the neighborhoods he grew up in.

The big offensive lineman, a potential first-round pick in the NFL draft in April, returned to Staten Island to lend a hand Saturday to those affected by the storm. Aboushi says driving through the hard-hit neighborhoods of Tottenville and Midland Beach was “an eye-opening experience,” even nearly two months after families were left without homes.

Aboushi, joined by his family, is handing out food, supplies and clothing _ with an assist from a big donation by Jets linebacker David Harris _ to nearly 1,000 Staten Island residents.
