NEW YORK (AP) — The late American crooner Andy Williams, famous for his classic easy-listening hits such as “Moon River,” also had a passion for Navajo blankets.
The 80 museum-quality blankets are being offered for sale by Sotheby’s New York in late May. They’re expected to bring more than $1 million.
The highlight is a rare Navajo man’s wearing blanket. It’s woven in a “chief’s first phase design” characterized by the addition of fine red stripes. Its pre-sale estimate is $200,000 to $300,000. Only about 50 are known to exist.
Williams decorated his home and the Moon River Theater, both in Branson, Mo., with the blankets.
They were featured in a St. Louis Art Museum exhibition in 1997-98.
The singer, also known for his Christmas TV specials, died in September at age 84.
