Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III did “better” at practice Thursday on his sprained right knee, coach Mike Shanahan said.
It was the second straight day of limited participation in practice for Griffin, whose status is uncertain for Sunday’s game at the Cleveland Browns.
“You could see he was more comfortable,” Shanahan said. “He was improved over yesterday.”
Griffin moved well during the brief period of practice open to media. He planted on his injured right leg and threw a variety of passes, as he did Wednesday. He also simulated stretch handoffs during quarterback drills. He favored his sprained knee at times.
Griffin will “probably” be a game-time decision, according to Shanahan. That’s no surprise given that the Redskins appear willing to wait until the last possible moment to announce their starter to give themselves a competitive advantage.
Kirk Cousins on Wednesday said he was told not to discuss the amount of reps he was taking in practice. He and Griffin did not address reporters Thursday, so any further updates will come from Shanahan.
Asked if he would have to see Griffin at full strength before giving him the go-ahead to play, Shanahan said: “You would like to see that, yeah.”
