It is quite wise of GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney to include portions of the beliefs of Rep. Ron Paul, Texas Republican, into the central Republican platform (“In Paul they trust as he leaves political stage,” Web, Aug. 23).

It would be even more prudent to include parts of the other former Republican presidential candidates’ positions as well. It is time for the Republicans to face forward instead of looking at each other. This is the way they will realize their ultimate goal of sweeping socialism from the White House and Congress.

The party needs to put government on a pay-as-you-go basis. It needs to reinforce the historical mandate of the Constitution and its unshakable guidance of the American way of life and culture. We need a Republican platform based on solid positions, not shaky planks designed to pander to special-interest groups.

It is my opinion that Mr. Romney could seal his election with just one simple statement: “As president of the United States, I will make it a primary goal of my administration and the Republican Party to again place a secure lock on the Social Security box, as was promised and given as law by President Franklin D. Roosevelt.” The theft of Social Security funds by politicians must no longer be tolerated. If our children have any chance for a sound future, it will be by guaranteeing their contributions to Social Security will remain inviolate.

The fight waged by Mr. Paul and others to examine every facet of government for waste and fraud will provide a path to financial security for America.
