SYDNEY (AP) - Tom Watson will play in the Australian Open for the first time in nearly 30 years.

Tournament officials said Friday that Watson, who won the Australian Open in 1984, will join Australians Adam Scott, Geoff Ogilvy and Greg Chalmers at The Lakes Golf Club in Sydney from Dec. 6-9. Scott won the Australian Open in 2009, and Chalmers is the defending champion.

Watson’s win at Royal Melbourne in 1984 came a year after he won the last of his eight majors, the 1983 British Open at Royal Birkdale, his fifth Open championship. He joined the Champions Tour in 1999 and has 14 wins on the senior tour.
