Construction starts Monday on eight new Capital Bikeshare stations that will expand the program to Alexandria.
The new stations, which are slated to be operational in September, move the popular cycle-sharing program — now in the District and Arlington County — south into Old Town. There are currently more than 100 Capital Bikeshare stations throughout the area.
Stations will be located at both the Braddock Road and King Street Metro stations, at Prince and Union streets, at King and North Royal streets, at King and South Patrick streets, at Commerce and South Fayette streets, at North Saint Asaph and Pendleton streets and at North Henry and Pendleton streets.
According to Capital Bikeshare statistics, people used the short-term rental bikes for nearly 203,000 trips in July. Systemwide, there were 1,407 bikes available for borrowing. More than 200,000 people were Capital Bikeshare members last month.
