WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) - Tomas Berdych of the Czech Republic and seventh-seeded Sam Querrey won quarterfinal matches Thursday at the Winston-Salem Open.
The second-seeded Berdych, ranked seventh in the world, fought back from dropping the first set against Belgium’s Steve Darcis to win 4-6, 6-2, 6-0.
Berdych will next face Querrey, a 7-5, 4-6, 7-6 (7-3) winner over fourth-seeded Alexandr Dolgopolov of the Ukraine in the final hard-court tournament before next week’s U.S. Open in New York.
Scheduled for the evening matches at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex are top-seeded Jo-Wilfried Tsonga of France, who will play sixth-seeded Marcel Granollers of Spain; and defending champion and No. 3 seed John Isner, who faces Belgium’s David Goffin.
