“The Civil War of 2016” (Comment & Analysis, Wednesday) certainly disturbed me. The notion that a member of the U.S. military (and an officer, no less) would take arms against citizens is appalling. This is especially true as we are reaching a danger point in regard to our individual liberty; the manner in which our federal and state governments conduct business is appalling.

American citizens are becoming increasingly disgusted with the antics of the Democrats and certain Republicans and the wealth-gobbling constituencies they both have. Back in the Bill Clinton era, a survey went out to the U.S. Marines, designed to see how many would take up arms against fellow Americans. The Marines who were targeted for the survey refused to take it, even when threatened with court-martial. I would hope the same feelings persist in our current military — and should we citizens need to take up arms against a tyrannical government, that the military would step away and let the fight run it course for liberty.
