HELSINKI (AP) - Google Inc. says it will invest (EURO)150 million ($177 million) to expand its data center in Finland.
In a statement Thursday, Google Finland says the data center will double in size as a result of the investment. It is situated in a former paper mill in the southeastern coastal town of Hamina and is one of the locations where the company keeps its servers.
The project will take 18 months to complete and the investment is estimated to add 25 jobs to the center’s current staff of 90.
In 2009, Google bought the former mill owned by paper maker Stora Enso Oyj and turned it into a data center using seawater from the Baltic Sea for its cooling system. The center began its operations in September 2011.
