Redskins at Bears, preseason Game 2: Saturday, 8 P.M., TV: NBC-4, CSN; RADIO: 980 AM, 92.7 FM, 94.3 FM
1. Can Robert Griffin III sustain his quality play over expanded playing time? Griffin was 4 of 6 passing for 70 yards and a touchdown in his preseason debut, but he acknowledged it was difficult to stop after only 14 plays. He is scheduled to play 30-35 plays Saturday, so he’ll have a chance to get into a rhythm.
2. Will the Redskins emerge without more significant injuries? They broke training camp this week as a banged-up team. They lost nose tackle Chris Neild (knee) for the season and continue to fight attrition on the offensive line. The Redskins need some good luck to get closer to full strength, especially on the line. Left tackle Trent Williams (left foot) intends to play.
3. Will the inexperienced offensive linemen improve on last week’s game? Right guard Adam Gettis and left guard Josh LeRibeus, both rookies, struggled with timing on combination blocks in their debuts last week. The speed of the game was an issue. Now that they’ve experienced it, let’s see if their play adjusts accordingly.
4. Who will take the lead in the kicking battle? Washington didn’t attempt a field goal in last week’s game, so opportunities this week are that much more valuable. Challenger Neil Rackers (9 for 9) beat incumbent Graham Gano (5 for 9) in the field goal-kicking session that was open to reporters earlier this week.
5. Which receiver on the bubble will stand out? Brandon Banks did not capitalize on nine passes thrown his way last week, and his diminutive stature was exposed as a liability. Anthony Armstrong is back from a sprained right shoulder, and veteran Dezmon Briscoe has played better in practice now that he’s been with the team for more than two weeks.
