The District will receive federal aid for damages from a massive storm at the end of June.

A request for funding was filed last week and the Federal Emergency Management Agency approved it Tuesday.

The funds will help cover the costs of emergency response and facility repair. Initial damage assessments were $6.7 million.

FEMA will cover 75 percent of approved reimbursements and the District will cover the remaining 25 percent.

The District was also granted hazard mitigation funds to help with preventative projects.

Virginia and West Virginia will also receive FEMA funding for storm recovery. Maryland’s application for funds is being considered.
