Wherever Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III end up on draft night, there’s a good chance they’ll face off at FedEx Field this August.
The Washington Redskins will host the Indianapolis Colts in the marquee game on their preseason schedule, which was announced Wednesday.
The Redskins will open their preseason with a visit to the Buffalo Bills the weekend of Aug. 9-13, then head to Chicago to play the Bears the following weekend. The Colts game will come the weekend of Aug. 23-26 in the third preseason game, which traditionally features the most playing time for first-string players. The Redskins will host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Aug. 29 or 30 to round out the preseason. Exact dates for the games have yet to be announced.
The Colts have the first pick in the NFL draft and are widely expected to select Luck, the former Stanford quarterback, leaving the Redskins to take the Heisman Trophy winner Griffin with the second overall pick. There’s a chance the players could be reversed, but either way both teams expect to emerge from the draft with a franchise quarterback.
Of the four opponents on the preseason slate, the Redskins played only the Bills during the regular season in 2011, losing 23-0 at Toronto in Week 8. They faced the Colts and Buccaneers last preseason.
The regular season schedule hasn’t been announced, but the Redskins know their opponents. They’ll have home games against the Cowboys, Giants, Eagles, Falcons, Panthers, Ravens, Bengals and Vikings. Their road slate consists of games at the Cowboys, Giants, Eagles, Saints, Buccaneers, Browns, Steelers and Rams.
