OPINION:
Americans are a very forgiving people. With that in mind, I can understand why America in 2008 was so quick to elect to the presidency a man with no executive experience and very little demonstrated leadership abilities. Many people voted for Barack Obama because of his race, his party, his charismatic personality or a combination of all three charcteristics. However, it takes more than personality to run a country as dynamic and complex as ours.
Voting for someone because he represents a particular race or party is one thing, but to vote for someone because he is charming and delivers a well-written speech is another thing entirely. This year’s election must be about voting into office someone who can work with Congress and respect the will of the people. To the contrary, our current president has steamrolled Congress, ignored the will of the people and now shows an unprecedented disrespect for the Supreme Court. This is the second time the president has exhibited scorn for the highest court in the land; the first was during one of his State of the Union addresses.
I have come to the conclusion that the president is an narcissist who will do whatever he has to do, including circumventing the law, in order to press forward with his redistributive agenda.
Americans can be forgiven for electing Mr. Obama in 2008. But if they make the same mistake in 2012, the country will likely continue through a prolonged period of Western European-style socialism with devastating consequences. With the Constitution shredded, it will take a long time to recover the liberties and freedoms we once held so dearly.
