DETROIT — Boise State standout Kellen Moore agreed to a free agent deal with Detroit, giving the Lions someone to develop behind starter Matthew Stafford and backup Shaun Hill.
Moore won 50 games in college, a Football Bowl Subdivision record for a starting quarterback, but he wasn’t among the 253 players taken in the draft.
Moore completed nearly 74 percent of his passes last year, finished his college career among the NCAA all-time leaders with 14,667 career yards passing and 142 career touchdown passes.
But the 6-foot, 197-pound native of Prosser, Wash., knew many questioned his future in the NFL because of his height and a perceived lack of arm strength.
“There’s a lot of ways to evaluate a quarterback,” Moore said at the NFL combine in February. “Some evaluate it and put a lot of emphasis on that. That’s fine. Smile, and move on.”
He told the (Idaho) Statesman this weekend: “I don’t think there will probably be a more motivated quarterback.”
Keenum signs with Texans
HOUSTON — Record-setting Houston quarterback Case Keenum says he plans to sign with the Texans.
Keenum said his optimism faded as the final day of the draft unfolded Saturday, and he wasn’t chosen. But he felt a lot better when he heard from Houston quarterback Matt Schaub on Saturday night, after the Texans had decided to pick him up.
The Texans were down to third-string quarterback T.J. Yates by the end of last season. They still finished 10-6, won their division and earned their first playoff berth.

• BILLS: Buffalo receiver Stevie Johnson is scheduled to have what his agent described as “very minor” surgery to repair a groin injury that nagged the player for most of last season. With 1,004 yards receiving last season, Johnson became the first Bills player to break the 1,000-yard mark in consecutive seasons. He signed a five-year, $36.25 million contract in March.
• BROWNS: Quarterback Colt McCoy participated in Cleveland’s voluntary offseason conditioning program just days after the Browns drafted his likely successor. McCoy reported to the team’s training complex in Berea on Monday amid speculation he may be traded. Cleveland took Oklahoma State quarterback Brandon Weeden in the first round.
• RAIDERS: Oakland is bringing in quarterback Jim Sorgi for a tryout. The Raiders are looking for a veteran backup quarterback to play behind starter Carson Palmer. They also are bringing in Matt Leinart this week.
• COWBOYS: Six offensive linemen headlined by Memphis guard Ronald Leary and North Texas rushing leader Lance Dunbar are among 21 undrafted free agents signed by Dallas. Tackles Levy Adcock of Oklahoma State and Taylor Dever of Notre Dame also were among the offensive linemen picked up by the Cowboys.
