HOLLYWOOD, FLA. (AP) - College football has taken a big step toward having a final four.
BCS Executive Director Bill Hancock says conference commissioners will present a “small number” of options for a four-team playoff to their leagues.
Now it’s up to each conference to determine which option it likes best. The commissioners will get back together in June and try to come up with a final version of a new way to determine a national champion.
The idea is to create a football final four with two national semifinals and a championship game. But many details need to be worked out.
Hancock warned that if no consensus is reached, the fallback would be sticking with an overhauled version of the old system, which aims for a No. 1 vs. No. 2 championship game.
