D.C. police are investigating the death of a man found unconscious Tuesday but have not classified the death as a homicide.

Officers were called to the 800 block of Emerson Street in Northwest around 6:30 p.m. and found an unconscious man with signs of trauma, Metropolitan Police Department Cmdr. Kimberly Chisley-Missouri wrote in a police department listserv. The man was later pronounced dead.

An MPD spokesman said the department is awaiting autopsy results to determine whether or not the death will be classified as a homicide.
