LANSDOWNE, Va. (AP) — The chief executive at the prison ministry founded by Watergate figure Charles Colson says he is in grave condition two weeks after undergoing brain surgery.
Jim Liske, chief executive of Lansdowne-based Prison Fellowship Ministries, issued a statement Wednesday saying Colson “will soon be home with the Lord” and that Colson’s condition began deteriorating Tuesday after some signs of recovery.
Colson underwent brain surgery to remove a clot after becoming ill March 30 while speaking at a conference.
The 80-year-old Colson had been President Richard Nixon’s special counsel, and spent seven months in prison on a Watergate-related conviction. He became a born-again Christian and has since been an advocate for ministering to prison inmates.
