NEW YORK (AP) - Ted Nugent says he was just speaking figuratively when he made what some perceived to be threats against President Barack Obama.

In a statement Thursday, Nugent said he didn’t threaten anyone’s life or advocate violence. He added: “Metaphors needn’t be explained to educated people.”

The rocker spoke at a National Rifle Association meeting in St. Louis last weekend, and in rallying support for Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, he said of the Obama administration: “We need to ride into that battlefield and chop their heads off in November,”

He also said he would be “dead or in jail by this time next year” if Obama is re-elected. That got the attention of the Secret Service, which has confirmed it is looking into the matter.
