WASHINGTON (AP) — House Speaker John Boehner says President Barack Obama “checked out” last Labor Day and has been campaigning ever since.

At his weekly news conference Wednesday, the Ohio Republican said Obama is shrinking from his responsibility to lead and doesn’t have the courage to tackle the problems facing the country.

Boehner’s tough talk comes a day after he and his Senate counterpart, Kentucky Republican Mitch McConnell, endorsed Republican Mitt Romney for president. Boehner declined Wednesday to offer advice to the remaining Republicans in the presidential race, Newt Gingrich and Ron Paul.
