WASHINGTON — House Speaker John Boehner is urging government investigators to get to the bottom of what happened in Colombia between Secret Service agents, military personnel and prostitutes.

Speaking to reporters Wednesday, the Ohio Republican did not answer how much responsibility President Barack Obama should bear in the scandal or whether Congress should hold hearings on it. Boehner said that for now, he is interested in what actually happened.

Secret Service and military officials are investigating allegations that 20 American agents and enlisted personnel were involved with 20 or 21 foreign women ahead of Obama’s visit to Colombia. The Americans involved are telling investigators conflicting stories about whether the women were prostitutes. Lawmakers are pressing to find out whether the women posed a threat to Obama or national security.
