WASHINGTON (AP) - First lady Michelle Obama is appearing on Comedy Central’s “The Colbert Report” to plug the anniversary of her “Joining Forces” initiative designed to honor U.S. troops and their families, particularly by helping find employment for veterans returning from war.
She told host Stephen Colbert on Wednesday night that employers are hiring veterans and finding flexible opportunities for spouses and that the high unemployment rate for veterans is declining.
Mrs. Obama began the program a year ago with Jill Biden, the vice president’s wife.
Colbert said he was doing his part by training a Marine to do a pundit’s job, teaching him he’s “an expert at everything” no matter what the subject.
