NEW YORK — Fourth-seeded Andy Murray beat 28th-seeded John Isner 7-5, 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (2) on Friday at the U.S. Open to reach his fourth Grand Slam semifinal this year.

Murray neutralized the 6-foot-9 Isner’s big serve and used lobs and pinpoint passing shots to stretch his winning streak to 10 matches.

Isner was playing in his first career Grand Slam quarterfinal. The American is best known for winning the longest match in tennis history, 70-68 in the fifth set at Wimbledon in 2010.

Murray is a three-time major finalist, including at the Australian Open in January and at Flushing Meadows in 2008. He’s seeking to become the first British man since 1936 to win a Grand Slam title.

Murray will face Rafael Nadal or Andy Roddick in Saturday’s semifinals.
