Jon Bon Jovi sings for N.Y. firefighters
Rocker Jon Bon Jovi returned to a Manhattan firehouse Wednesday to pay tribute to firefighters marking the 10-year anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
According to the Associated Press, the New Jersey native was filmed singing “America the Beautiful” by an NBC television crew preparing for a special “NFL Kickoff 2011: Back to Football” show Saturday. The joint NFL Network/NBC Sports production features football, music and a tribute to 9/11 first responders.
He sang the same song for a performance that aired nationally on Sept. 23, 2001, prior to the kickoff of the first NFL games after the terrorist attacks. Mr. Bon Jovi said in an interview after Wednesday’s performance that it was “as moving this time as it was then.”
Mr. Bon Jovi said firefighters who were there a decade ago, as well as police officers from a nearby precinct, came to the taping at Engine Co. 8, Ladder 2. He said he felt some of the same camaraderie that he felt in 2001.
“I want the country of Sept. 12th again, when everybody came together,” he said. “We said we’d never forget and now we can live up to it.”
Cooking show may be next for Zac Brown Band
At most of their concerts, the Zac Brown Band offers fans more than burgers and chicken fingers. Instead, they have a team of chefs prepare what the group’s leader calls “real, Southern gourmet.”
Now, according to the Associated Press, Zac Brown may be taking his love for food to television.
“We’ve talked about it,” Mr. Brown said about possibly doing a cooking show for TV. “We’ve filmed a lot of the stuff, a lot of the cooking elements of our stuff to possibly put a show together, and we definitely will do that one day.”
The Grammy-winning group offers “eat and greets” at most of their live shows for fan-club members. And Mr. Brown said he takes the food aspect of the show as serious as the music.
“This isn’t just a chance for somebody to come eat a bag of nachos and some Cheez Whiz at a concert,” he said.
’Project Runway’ spinoff to focus on accessories
Supermodel Molly Sims will host a new competition reality show about the cutthroat world of designing accessories called “Project Accessory.”
The Lifetime network announced the choice Wednesday for host of the “Project Runway” spinoff.
Twelve contestants will take part in challenges to highlight their creativity and eye for detail when creating jewelry, belts, bags and shoes.
Lifestyle expert Eva Lorenzotti will be the contestants’ mentor. Designer Kenneth Cole and InStyle Editor Ariel Foxman will be judges.
“Project Accessory” is to premiere later this year.
Man sentenced for stalking ’Law & Order’ actress
A Pennsylvania man convicted of stalking “Law & Order: Criminal Intent” actress Kathryn Erbe has been sentenced in New York to five years’ probation and ordered to pay $42,000 in restitution.
The Associated Press reports Charles Nagel was sentenced Wednesday in federal court in Brooklyn. Prosecutors say the 36-year-old Philadelphia resident began stalking Miss Erbe in 2008 by trying to hug her while she was filming in Manhattan. Authorities say once he was rebuffed, he began composing creepy missives about her on a social-networking site.
The 44-year-old Miss Erbe testified she was scared and thought Nagel was obsessed with her. Nagel said it was a misunderstanding.
Coroner: No drugs, alcohol in Armstrong’s body
Coroner’s officials found no drugs or alcohol in the system of Russell Armstrong, who appeared with his wife on “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” and killed himself three weeks before the show’s second season premiered.
A report on Armstrong’s death released Wednesday provided no new details about why the venture capitalist hung himself, the Associated Press reports. He left behind no note, but the report notes that Armstrong had been depressed about financial issues and problems with his estranged wife, Taylor.
There were no signs of foul play, the report states.
Armstrong, 47, made no mention of killing himself on Aug. 12 when he was last seen by his roommate after dinner. Armstrong’s body was found Aug. 15 in his bedroom and he had been dead for some time, according to the report.
Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter said toxicology tests completely ruled out that Armstrong had been drinking or taken any drugs before he died.
