OPINION:
Turkey continues to show marked hostility toward Israel in its demand for an apology for the Turkish-sponsored breaking of international law, a move that included sending ships to run a legal blockade of the terrorist, Hamas-held enclave in Gaza.
To add insult to injury, Turkey has demanded that Israel allow all shipping to enter Gaza, despite the United Nations’ statement that there is no humanitarian crisis in that region and that this would allow an unrestricted flow of deadly weapons to Hamas.
Certainly, our own police forces would not have considered the reaction to being battered and almost murdered excessive, although apparently the Palmer Commission, in an effort to show balance, did in its report. The hostility of Turkey toward Israel, which includes not only the apology demands for the flotilla incident but also the refusal to designate Hamas and Hezbollah as terrorist organizations and its warm relations with Iran, demonstrate that Turkey has become an enemy of the Jewish state.
The United States has certainly been complicit with a frosty reception from Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, who wants Israel to accede to Turkey’s demands.
