Lauren Bush marries Ralph Lauren’s son
Lauren Bush became Lauren Bush-Lauren on Sunday, when she wed 39-year-old David Lauren, the son of fashion designer Ralph Lauren, in a Western-style ceremony at a ranch in Colorado.
The 27-year-old model, the niece of former President George W. Bush and granddaughter of former President George H.W. Bush, reportedly donned an “intricately embroidered Victorian-style gown” crafted by her new father-in-law. According to the New York Post, one of the wedding attendees declared it “one of Ralph’s most iconic designs.”
Guests opted for a rugged Western look, sporting cowboy boots, black ties, turquoise jewelry and denim. The wedding reportedly began with the bride riding in a horse-drawn carriage as guests gazed up from carved wooden benches. According to the Post, the bride strolled down the aisle with both parents.
The Post also reported that George W. Bush, his wife, Laura, and their daughters, Jenna and Barbara, attended the ceremony. Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush also was in attendance. As ABC News reported last week, former President George H.W. Bush and former first lady Barbara Bush could not go to the wedding because the high altitude could cause health problems for the couple.
A source told the Post that George H.W. Bush and Barbara Bush sent their love and good wishes through a video message, which was played at the Saturday evening rehearsal dinner.
Us Weekly reported Monday that the weekend affair had plenty of outdoor activities, including a picnic, a rodeo and a softball game. The ranch is complete with a saloon, teepees and cabins.
Bruni-Sarkozy to protect new baby’s privacy
French first lady Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, who was silent about her pregnancy until this summer, said she will continue to protect her child’s privacy long after his or her birth.
In an interview with TF1 program “Sept a Huit,” the former model said she will forbid the press to print pictures of her child.
“I will do everything to protect this infant, and I’ll be absolutely rigorous,” the 43-year-old said, as translated by People magazine. “I will never show photos of this child. I will never expose this child.”
Ms. Bruni-Sarkozy may have acquired her self-described “mother hen” mentality from experience, having taken her firstborn, Aurelien, on a public date with then-husband-to-be Nicolas Sarkozy in 2008.
“My eldest son was exposed once, not in a public situation but in a private one, and it was a great error,” Ms. Bruni-Sarkozy said. “I should have foreseen there would be photographers.”
Addressing tabloid speculation that Ms. Bruni-Sarkozy will have another son, the first lady said, “A boy? I don’t know myself, so the press knows better than I do.”
Ms. Bruni-Sarkozy fueled pregnancy rumors earlier this year when she veiled her belly in the presence of photographers. In a May interview with Le Parisien, she wouldn’t confirm or deny her pregnancy.
Ms. Bruni-Sarkozy may have kept quiet about expecting a baby, but her family members couldn’t contain their excitement. Pal Sarkozy, the father of Nicolas Sarkozy, told Bild in May, “I’m glad to be having a grandchild. … The two do not want to know the gender in advance, but I’m sure it will be a girl and as beautiful as Carla.”
Ms. Bruni-Sarkozy had her son, Aurelien, with former companion Raphael Enthoven.
’Bruised-up Barbie’ photo to be auctioned for charity
After receiving criticism by an anti-domestic violence organization, Tyler Shields, the photographer behind the berated “bruised-up Barbie” photo shoot of blond “Glee” star Heather Morris bearing a fake black eye, will auction off the photo. The starting price will be $100,000, and all proceeds will be given to a domestic violence charity.
TMZ reported that Mr. Shields is addressing the negative buzz behind his photos, which show the 24-year-old actress smiling as she pretends to iron the male photographer’s crotch as well as tugging her ponytail on an ironing board. According to the online celebrity news site, Mr. Shields felt bad about “the way” many perceived the photos.
“Even Barbie gets bruises,” Mr. Shields had written in his blog alongside his pictures of a bruised Miss Morris, who can be seen bare-shouldered and drinking water from an iron with her hands tied up.
The artist, who also conducted last year’s photo shoot of Lindsay Lohan in a revealing bra inside a blood-spattered room, claims he didn’t intend to glamorize domestic violence, but some argued that he lacked understanding and sensitivity on the issue.
“I don’t know if Tyler is aware, but I’m quite sure there are plenty of women who have been abused by these kinds of household appliances and children, as well being hit with electrical cords,” Rita Smith of the Denver-based National Coalition Against Domestic Violence told E! “If he had stopped with the image of the bruise, [the photos] could conceivably be used as a way to raise awareness about the impact of violence, but the other things do make it look appealing, as if she might be enjoying the process, and I don’t think that’s helpful.”
