TORONTO (AP) - The Toronto Blue Jays activated right-hander Dustin McGowan off the 60-day disabled list before Monday’s home game against the Boston Red Sox.
The 29-year-old McGowan hasn’t pitched in the big leagues since July 8, 2008, when he came out of start against Baltimore due to shoulder pain.
Surgery followed soon after and he wasn’t able to pitch until the spring of 2010 before more problems surfaced. The former first-round pick had a second shoulder operation last June.
The Jays re-signed McGowan to a one-year deal worth $450,000 back in December. McGowan is 20-22 in his career with a 4.71 earned-run average. His best season was in 2007 when he finished 12-10 with a 4.08 ERA.
