The article “Obama spikes his base” (Commentary, Wednesday) said President Obama is trying to energize blacks to get out and vote for him. I can guarantee that there are more than 8 million black votes that won’t be there for him in 2012.

Since abortion became legal in 1973, approximately 18 million (35 percent of 52 million) abortions have been performed on black women. That number is equal to 47 percent of the 37.7 million blacks counted in the 2010 census. Approximately one-third of the black population is missing because of abortion.

If they hadn’t been aborted, approximately 8 million of those aborted would have been 18 and over - and eligible to vote. Some of the women in that group would have entered their childbearing years in 1988 and could have produced children before 1994; they would also have been eligible to vote in 2012.

Many in the black community vote for Democrats and aren’t active in the pro-life movement. It would be ironic if the pro-abortion policies of the Democratic Party help Democrats lose elections in 2012 and the future.
